Status HYBRIS Project – October 2024

Recently there has been a lot of activity in the Messina pilot site. KEMIWATT’s commissioning operations started for the replacement of the V0 electrolytes with the new V1. At the same time, the CNR and SAE staffed together with LAYER to restart the LTO inverter. In this regard, there remains the doubt about the 160A. A successful manual charge test was carried out on the LTO inverter. At the end of Kemiwatt’s activities CNR and SAE will carry out manual charge and discharge tests.

Status AORFB_Kemiwatt – Electrolytes upgrade V0 to V1

Three members of the team stayed for three full days on the HYBRIS demo-site of Messina with the following objectives:

1.      flush out the V0 electrolytes

2.     carefully strip of the tank using high pressure water

3.      rinse the tanks, the process and the stacks

4.      fill the 2 tanks with electrolytes

5.      perform circulation tests/hydraulic pressure tests/check for leakages

6.      inert both tanks

7.      check for the gas network

8.      realize the SAT (Site Acceptance Test) which implies to check for the performances of the system and share the system status and the cycling data in a SAT report.

The team followed the schedule without encountering any problem. The 6 first tasks were done during the first 2 days. During the last day, the last tasks were achieved:

·         task 7: confirmation that there is no gas leakage (or at least it was too low to be able to be quantified) in the gas network, so the overpressure works well and the gas consumption should be easy to manage by SAE.

·         task 8: a full cycle was done using 5 kW power between SoC 5% and 90%. The SAT report with specific performance data will be shared early next week.

Kemiwatt thanks SAE for their support that allowed the team to work in the best conditions.

Regarding system performance, one full cycle is not enough to evaluate if fully. Hence Kemiwatt asked for remote VPN access to the AORFB PCS/BMS to allow to perform more cycles. They should be able to be realized the week of the 21st of october.”
