Specific objectives and technological applications

BIM4REN is a H2020 funded project involving 23 partners spread across 10 countries for a 4 year long series of developments on the topic of the exploitation of BIM potential for the energy renovation of existing buildings for the whole construction value chain.

The project will define digital renovation workflows ready to adapt to the needs of the construction sector and will craft an open and decentralized BIM environment as a solid and innovative foundation for major developments. A single access platform will integrate all technologies as a single point of entry for all users.

BIM4Ren is a fully web-oriented, decentralised platform. A tool for every step of your renovation project. All in a One Stop Access Platform. Through a single entry point, the BIM4Ren One Stop Access Platform (OSAP), users will have access to innovative tools to guide them in the creation of a renovation project. We have grouped our tools in 5 different categories applicable to diverse renovation workflows scenarios:

Technologies

BIM4REN is developing a set of easy-to-use tools & services in the same common Open Environment for an agile, adaptable and fast renovation process that can be used in real, everyday projects. The tools will help in three main areas:
  • DATA COLLECTION
Some tools will allow end-users to gather such details as geometry, state of degradation, energy consumption, thermal comfort or stakeholder requirements in a quick and efficient process that can provide an adapted description of the building and information for further decision-making.
  • DATA MANAGEMENT
Once data is collected, construction professionals need to easily sort, classify, synchronise and secure such large amounts of information. By using extended BIM capacities BIM4REN will allow the integration and handling of this information into one single environment so that the construction value chain can work collaboratively and with increased efficiency.
  • DATA DRIVEN DESIGN
Another set of BIM4Ren tools will facilitate the design process by accessing assessments models such as energy consumption evaluation, cost analysis and decision support tools that help in the selection and validation of different renovation scenarios.
